Last weekend a friend of ours was able to get us tickets for the Family Day at Leinster House (which houses the Dáil and the Seanad) and despite whacking my leg of a tiny bollard upon arrival we had a lovely day. There was lots of Family entertainment and food but the highlight was getting into the Dáil itself. We had been there as children on various tours but never inside the chamber so we felt very privileged! The painting over the staircase is of Countess Markievicz who played a major part in Irish history; from fighting in the the 1916 Rising to being the first woman in Europe, if not the world, to be appointed a Minister in a modern democracy. The lovely weather has broken here - we had a huge thunderstorm over Dublin at about 3.30am - the bedroom was filled with light and noise! I have not seen lightening like that since a Summer storm over the sea when on holidays as a child in Inchydoney - very exciting.

Thank you for visiting my blog. I love yours. My grandmother was from Ireland, just north of Dublin. I haven't had a chance to travel there yet, but hope to one day. Thanks for a "real" glimpse into her homeland.
what a great day, I love your photo with the flags
