One stop I had to make on our recent holiday was the beautiful village of Avoca and most especially Avoca Handweavers. Having taken the self-guided tour of the looms and work-rooms we moved on the The Mill Store where I finally bought a long-coveted rug for our sofa (which our cat Louis has since claimed as his). We then went for a wander around the village which might be recognisable as the setting for TV show Ballykissangel before stocking up on tea and cake in the Avoca cafe for the onward journey.

Next on our tour of the east was Altamont Gardens. The weather cleared up just long enough for our stroll around the lovely gardens. The house is not open to the public but there is an adjacent garden centre and tea shop where you can rest after looking at all the summer splendor in the gardens. We were really lucky to have this peacock and peahen pose for photographs and put on quite a display for us!

We decided to holiday in the east of Ireland this year and one of our top sites to visit was Russborough House. It rained all day but we got some nice outside shots before we headed into the buy our tickets for the house tour. While we were waiting I hit up the Tea Rooms and the Gift Shop! The tour was fantastic - unfortunately no photographs allowed but we were assured that there is a coffee table style book coming out next year. Take a look at the website for more information.
